Charity Walk - August 2009
Our much waited for Charity Walk was held on Sunday 2 August 2009 under the cloudy sky of Curepipe. There was the initial fear that the rains would keep many of the anticipated participants back into the cozy comfort of their homes. What looked like a timid beginning with a few scattered parents, soon became a consequent crowd of about 200 with parents, members and well-wishers coming from far away followed by friends and other well wishers.
The mood was festive. The scattered rains and the cool weather added to the excitement. Mr Philip Wan addressed the participants and the Deputy Mayor of the town of Curepipe delivered the launching speech. Soon the crowd was on its way, led by some of the dystrophy sufferers happily driving their wheelchairs.
Unfortunately the occasion was marked by the sad passing away of one of our patients, Jonathan Buckland, aged 18 years. The news came just after the Walk was completed. His courage will be a beacon of encouragement for MDA to continue the fight.
Pictures of the Walk are posted in the website photo gallery.
