Professional Support
The Muscular Dystrophy Association embarked on a new vision and mission, following the publication of "Voices of Hope - coping with muscular dystrophy in Mauritius" in April 2008. Until then, the environment in which no muscular dystrophy patients were treated medically led to early demise of the sufferers. Hence, boys with Duchenne passed away as early as their mid-teens, compared with Duchenne patients who live in their thirties and even beyond their forties in countries where medical interventions slow the progress of the disease and offer better quality of life. For more information, please read the website section on "The Doctors story."
On behalf of the muscular dystrophy sufferers, MDA acknowledges with deep appreciation the epic and historic role of the professional support in making an enormous impact of the lives of the sufferers. The immediate effect has been the enhanced quality of life, which in due course, should embrace higher life expectancy.
